I am so excited about this new season and what’s ‘In’ right now. There is still an 80s feel to everything; but in a good way. I was never a huge fan of the 80s fashion and my heart sank when it started creeping in… everywhere! But I am converted; it’s come back stronger, more defined, delicate, chic. For example, the leg warmers are now made of shear material – completely fabulous with a good pair of heels and much more versatile than the old thick, luminous ones. Also, shoulder pads are great now! They are more defined and I love the detail on some of them – having sequins on one’s shoulders is much more pleasant than the weight of the world!
I am mostly overjoyed to see a Parisian, 1940s feel coming into everything. There appears to be a lot more thought and effort being taken over what I see on the high street. There is more lace and beading on dresses and beautiful little cotton tops with buttons at the back, there is a lot of floral patterns too but that’s a given for spring/summer.
I’m strangely pleased to see that the 60s situation seems to be fading – I do love big blocks of colour and mini skirts but I found myself trying to minimise the effect rather than embrace it to it’s fullest black & white brilliants.
I do think it is important to always have a short rest from the past and look to the future and what we might be wearing when the earth is under water; where possible of course.
